Tips & Tricks
Make tap washers last longer (don’t over tighten)
If you’ve turned off the faucet and the tap is still dripping then it most probably needs its washer replacing.
If you know what you’re doing replacing a tap washer is a relatively simple task. The bigger problem is gaining access to that washer. There are thousands of different taps on the market and each one requires a different method and different tools to disassemble it. If you’re not 100% sure then play safe and ask a plumber for some advice.
When replacing a washer, consider spending a little more for a ceramic disc spindle (which can last up to 10 years). And remember: DO NOT over-tighten. This can make matters worse. It’s a common occurrence that we come across customers who have got into the bad habit of really crunching down the tap heads. This will only serve to help wear out the washer or even split it.
